SummaryAn association has threatened to hold a protest demonstation if the increase was not rolled back.

Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) today came out against the hike in DND flyway toll rates and threatened to hold a protest demonstation if the increase was not rolled back by November 19.

The Association has also written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking his intervention in withdrawal of the toll hike.

"From the initial toll charges of Rs.8 per entry of car, toll charges were recently hiked to Rs.22 from Rs.20. To the utter shock of Noida citizens, the toll charges have been hiked to Rs.25/- per entry of car from the midnight of Friday the 9th November, 2012," N.P.Singh, President of the Assocation, today.

"Noida citizens are highly agitated over the uncalled for and unjustified hike in toll charges. Several associations have extended support to FONRWA to organize agitational programmes, like sit-ins, blockade of traffic on DND flyway", said A.N.Dhawan,Chief advisor,FONRWA.

"FONRWA has been pleading with the Noida Authority for the last 3 years to take over the flyway under their own charge and make it toll-free in public interest", said Dhawan.

"The agency (NTBCL) has already earned far more than the capital expenditure incurred by them in building, development and running of the flyway from the toll charges and hoardings etc", claimed Dhawan.

"NTBCL was allotted land by Noida Authority almost free with a view to getting NOIDA connected with Delhi by a new route so as to reduce traffic on the other routes for the convenience of public and toll charges were allowed to be levied to meet capital expenses incurred and recurring expenses on its operation and maintenance", said Dhawan.

He said the number of vehicles using DND flyway has been steadily going up and at present it has reached the figure of about 1-1/2 lakhs from the initial about 500. Thus, the earning of the agency operating it has gone up mani-fold,"said Dhawan.
