Nod for Govinda, Ganesh fete medical insurance
The committee approved an insurance of Rs 10,000 to cover medical treatment, and a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to family members in the event of death. The committee rejected the Opposition proposal to raise the medical cover to Rs 15,000. “If additional expenses on medical treatment are to incurred, the corporation will consider these on a case-to-case basis,” committee chairman Rahul Shewale said.
MNS corporator and standing committee member Dilip Lande alleged that the corporation was washing its hands of the issue. “Rs 10,000 is far less when compared to expenses in a hospital.”
Ganeshotsav committees welcomed the move. “Many who meet with accidents during celebrations come from the lower strata; this will benefit them greatly,” said Girish Walawalkar, secretary of the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samnvay Samiti.
