This came a day before Trinamool Congress ministers at the Centre are scheduled to tender their resignation. Justifying the government’s recent decisions regarding FDI in multi-brand retail, diesel price hike and cap on subsidised LPG cylinders, Bansal said that it is “the beginning of change” and the economy will further improve.

“We had enough friends yesterday, we have enough friends today. So, I don’t think why you should doubt our stability,” Finance Minister P Chidambaram said. Asked if the government would look for new allies, he said, “If we can acquire new friends, why would we not?”
