No reply from UT to schools about EWS quota
Independent Schools Association (ISA) president H S Mamik had written two letters to the Director Public Instructions (DPI) (Schools) seeking clarifications related to the admissions to be done under the RTE Act.
Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, H S Mamik said, “Despite a reminder, the education department is yet to inform us of their stand. The admission process is drawing near and schools definitely require clarification regarding the number of seats to be provided under the RTE Act.”
“By delaying their reply, the UT education department is doing nothing but creating hurdles for the schools,” he added.
ISA sought clarification on the point that if the reservation of 15 per cent EWS students is not a part of the RTE Act, whether the total reservations add up to 40 per cent - 25 per cent plus 15 per cent.
As per UT Administration’s notification in 1996, 2000 and 2005, the schools who were allotted land will have to give 15 per cent reservation.
ISA further questioned that if the 15 per cent EWS is being implemented on post-1996 land allotment, whether, as per the notification/ condition, the seats are to be chargeable at nominal rates.
However, the UT Education department assured that it will be replying to the letters shortly.
The private schools have already completed the process of sale and submission of the priced admission
