No gas, Ratnagiri power plant stops production
RGPPL is promoted by NTPC Limited and GAIL (India) Limited, and was set up to take over and revive the assets of Dabhol Power Company. RGPPL owns an integrated power generation and re-gasified LNG facility.
An official said that RGPPL had of late been getting only about 0.8 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metre per day) of gas against the usual 8.5 MMSCMD. This had resulted in generation dropping to about 250-300 MW against the plant’s capacity of 1,950 MW, he said.
Of the 8.5 MMSCMD, 7.6 MMSCMD came from KG D-6 basin; the rest from ONGC’s Marginal Gasfields (through GAIL). Now, RGPPL was getting about 0.84 MMSCMD from RIL and 0.2 MMSCMD from GAIL — not sufficient to run even one of the six turbines at the technical minimum operating parameter.
The overall power demand in Maharashtra on Wednesday was 14,347 MW against an availablity of 13,759 MW.
