No commission to probe Mumbai attacks: Govt

New Delhi: The government on Friday rejected the Opposition's demand for appointing an Inquiry Commission into the 26/11 Mumbai attacks saying it was "surprising" that it was being made six months after the terror strike.
"I don't think there is a need for a Commission of Inquiry. We are not going to appoint it," Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.
He was asked to comment on the Opposition's demand for a commission to look into the Mumbai attacks.
"I am amused by that demand...so far as the Mumbai attacks of 26/11 is concerned, we have all the facts. I have gone into all the records and we are quite clear on how it happened and I have shared it with the House," he said.
The Home Minister said to demand a Commission of Inquiry six months after the event was "surprising".
"Besides, I would like to ask, did the NDA government appoint a Commission of Inquiry after Kandahar? Did they appoint a Commission of Inquiry after Parliament was attacked? I don't think that these kind of statements are going to help the situation," he added.
Chidambaram said the role of such commissions is to instruct the government when it does not know the facts or is not in possession of the facts.
He noted that the Pradhan Report has also clarified facts on the events relating to the attacks.
Earlier on Friday, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani described the Mumbai attacks as an "invasion on India" launched from Pakistan and demanded setting up of an inquiry commission at central level to determine what went wrong and suggest steps to prevent recurrence of such terror strikes.

What is wrong with with setting up an enquiry commission for the Bombay massacre in which 170 people died and Pakistans involvement. What is the GOI trying to cover up?If GOI does not agree, concerned citizens should file the complaint in the Supreme Couirt to order the GOI to set up the enquirey/inquiry commission.

In the interest of the nation you have to probe, moreover when you repeatedly probe modi's involvement in guj roits, when you probe karkare's death as suspicious due to that tainted minister called antulay, you have to probe. what if BJP didnt get majority, we the citizens of india demand a decent probing and an explanation from you. ruling india dosent mean you can manupulate things.

Mr. Chidamabaram has not fully grasped what has been asked by Mr. Advani, Leader of Opppostion. He seems to reject it because this has come from Mr. Advani. The home minister is diverting the point unnecessarily. Mumbai attack is the first attack from the sea and all the terrorists came from outside. This cannot happen without some active support from local deshdrohis. A commission of enquiry will be help in unravalling all aspects including lapses on the govt machinery. There is no comparison between what happened during the attacks onparliament etc. It has become a fashion by congress to see politics in every suggestion. STOP this nonsense and see the merit in the suggestion, or else the goodwill earned in recent election will vanish in no time. Terrorism from Pakistan is a very serious matter and above petty politics. Home minister must see the percentage of voting in mumbai to see how much we believe in him.
