The Mumbai police cyber crime cell Tuesday arrested two men, including a Nigerian national, for allegedly creating fake email IDs in the name of ICICI Bank managing director and CEO Chanda Kochhar.

Ratish Kargappa, 30, and Udj Efe Chuks, 33, allegedly created eight fake email ids using Kochhar’s name on various portals. They allegedly offered investors and customers of the bank an ‘investment plan’ worth Rs 50 crore on behalf of Kochhar. A bank manager with ICICI, Vinaykumar Vithhal, recently received some emails enquiring about the plan. Vithhal brought the matter to Kochhar’s notice.

Senior inspector Nandkishore More said the IP address was traced to a computer in Bangalore. Kargappa and Chuks were brought to Mumbai on Wednesday. On Thursday, a court remanded them in police custody till November 20.
