The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to pay Rs 5 lakh relief to the next of kin of the minor girl who was allegedly abducted and murdered by policemen inside the premises of Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur Kheri district in June 2011.
The commission observed that “in view of the report of the investigation team of this commission and the investigation carried out by the CB-CID, it is established, prima facie, that a police constable attempted to rape the 14-year-old victim, strangulated her and then hanged her body from a tree in the premises of Police Station, Nighasan.”
It said, “Two constables attempted to destroy evidence. The three doctors who conducted the autopsy colluded with the police.... The senior police officers committed dereliction of duty by not taking timely appropriate action.”
Police file case against Zee News
The Delhi Police has registered a case against Zee News for allegedly showing forged annexure of a CAG report on coal block allocation, a charge dismissed by the channel as a “figment of imagination, mala fide and oppressive”.
The Crime Branch registered the case alleging that the CAG report annexure shown by Zee News was forged, sources said. They said a case of cheating and forgery was registered after finding that the news channel allegedly forged a particular section of the CAG report. Investigators have compared the actual CAG report with the screen grab from the show that Zee aired and spotted the forgery, they said.
Responding to the allegations, Zee counsel Vijay Aggarwal said, “This FIR is a counter offensive to investigation ordered by the court to be conducted by SHO Tughlak Road. The contents of FIR are a figment of imagination, mala fide and oppressive.”
A Zee statement alleged that the fresh FIR is a “repeat performance” of an earlier FIR by MP Naveen Jindal.
