Ahead of the organisational reshuffle, there is a strong buzz in the Congress about AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh being given a new charge. Congress sources say that Singh may be divested of his charge of Uttar Pradesh and given a new assignment. The talk is that Singh may be given charge of Andhra Pradesh where the party has much at stake. Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is AICC general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh at present, has miserably failed as the party’s fortunes continue to slide in the state.
Accomodating Issue
The government is finding it difficult to accommodate R N Gupta and V Rajagopal, the two IPS officers of 1976 batch who lost out to S Asif Ibrahim in the race for the post of Director of Intelligence Bureau (DIB), in some other positions. As a result of which these two Special Directors in IB, who are one year senior to Ibrahim, might decide to go on leave till they retire from service in January. While selecting Ibrahim as the next DIB, it was proposed that Gupta be shifted as an Officer on Special Duty to the Cabinet Secretariat and Rajagopal to Joint Intelligence Committee. But while Ibrahim’s appointment was finalised, the PMO is learnt to have advised the Home Ministry to find some other position for Gupta and Rajagopal. That has left the Home Ministry in a quandary as there are no other suitable jobs vacant for them, which means that two new positions would have
