New dist court complex opens, Patil says more facilities needed for speedier justice

With the foundation stone having been laid in 2007, the new district court complex was inaugurated and handed over to the court authorities by the UT administration on Friday. Built at a cost of Rs 44 crore, the fully air-conditioned building was inaugurated by UT Administrator, Shivraj V Patil in the presence of eminent judges and lawyers of the city.

On the occasion the administrator said: “It is an achievement for us to have this big beautiful building now. On the path of modernisation, however, many other things like the CCTV cameras, tape recorders to record the evidence and arguments may be needed. These kinds of gadgets will reduce the time and efforts needed to do speedier and more correct justice”.

“While planning the second phase of the complex, we will ensure the provisions for all the advancements will be included,” he added.

Justice A K Sikri, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court narrated a preamble, “We the people of the city, present to ourselves this beautiful District Court Complex. We solemnly pledge to ensure speedy justice which is fair, quick and at an affordable cost”. He also added that only if we inculcate technology in our system will we be able to set up a fast track court.

Justice Rajive Bhalla, Chairman of the construction committee heaved a sigh of relief and said: “At Last! This building was pending from a long time and today it is completed. The credit goes to the persons who had
