Congress Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi has called for pursuing hard-nosed diplomacy and giving a firm response to Pakistan in the wake of the killing and mutilation of two Indian Army soldiers at the Line of Control (LoC) recently. Intervening in a discussion on “India And The World”, one of the five working groups set up to determine the party line on key socio-economic, political and international issues during the Jaipur Chintan Shivir, Gandhi told senior party leaders that India should deal firmly with Pakistan based on safeguarding national interests and not indulge in emotional outbursts. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is said to have underlined the need for diplomacy.

He added that India cannot wish away Pakistan, but added there could not be business with Pakistan in such a situation. Dr. Singh earlier said that civil society in Pakistan was for good relations with India but there were elements like army that were hostile towards such move. Gandhi said India had done well after the 26/11 and managed to corner the elements that were to be cornered. He said it was the way to go ahead in the future too. The session was chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma.

Hard Nosed diplomacy

Anoop | 20-Jan-2013Reply | Forward
We have to wait and watch as to what is meant by hard nosed diplomacy. So far our foreign policy towards pakistan has failed miserably. We are seen as approaching them all the time whereas they are always seen as pushing us and our concerns aside. We need to to have a firm policy as we are trying to run away from the core issue which is nuclear blackmail as I see in the context of the statement by pakistani high commissioner. They seem to be taking it for granted that we have no answer to the nuclear blackmail. They will keep doing what they are doing now. So the best is to take the bull by the horn and sort out the issues once for all. Prolonging the matter is not an answer but to deal with it and deal in a firm manner is the ONLY answer

We need mature leaders

This country needs mature, seasoned, statesmen as leaders. Rahul Gandhi, who uses an Italian passport to travel to Switzerland and has been caught at a US airport with a hundred thousand dollars in currency in a suitcase, may be a great choice as far the Congress, with its avowedly sycophantic ways is concerned, but for the common man, we're better off trying someone like Arvind Kejriwal, who is also young, but an IITian and not corrupt, rather than this political scion, who doesn't have an education, but billions of dollars in foreign tax havens.

VP Rahul Gandhi

This is an immature statement from Rahul, the VP of Congress.
