Over 10,000 candidates on Friday appeared for the first ever computer-based National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test across the country for admission to post-graduate medical courses in various medical colleges.

Announcing the commencement of the National Eligibility- cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG), the National Board of Examinations (NBE) said a total of 95,000 candidates will appear for the test which will be conducted over 11 days at 51 test centres across 33 cities.

In addition to months of extensive preparation to ensure that all testing facilities meet strict parameters, NBE said it has ensured stringent security policies and procedures during the test.

"Before candidates are even allowed in the testing venue, their digital image and fingerprint are captured and they are assigned a specific workstation for their test," Executive Director of NBE, Bipin Batra said.

Nearly 800 cameras are also installed at test centres to record both audio and video footage of the examination, he said.

The NBE said all candidates who showed up on time with the requisite documentation on the first day of NEET-PG have successfully completed their tests.
