New Delhi, September 16: : Taking a pot shot at the US financial sector, which is facing one of the worst turmoils ever, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said those "preaching" others have not kept their own house in order.

"Those who preached us best practices have not helped their own financial sector," Nath told reporters here when asked to comment on the US financial crisis, worsened by collapse of investment bank Lehman Brothers.

Nath said the amount of exposure of the banks going down is small in Asia. "A very small fraction of that (US economic turmoil) is in Asia. This shows that best practices have been adhered to in Asia," Nath said.

However, he said, the economic turmoil in the US is causing concern to most of the global economies. "It still has to be assessed to what extent it will affect the economy in Europe," he said.

The US credit crisis worsened on Monday with 158-year-old Lehman Brothers filing for bankruptcy protection after losing around 60 billion dollars in the sinking real-estate market.

Earlier, the troubled investment bank Merrill Lynch was bought by Bank of America.

Minister Kamal Nath needs to be more mature. It is useless to compare Indian and US economies. We do not have even a small fraction of the controls that have been introduced in the US system., nor do we have a fraction of the financial products in the that attract funds from across the world. A minister is not expected to make childish remarks even when at play.

Mr Kamal Nath,Don`t fish in troubled waters. Also please note the old Indian Kahawat "People in glass houses do not throw stones at others". See how PM who is a tall figure in the International finances is keeping MUM! Learn and for god`s sake don`t open your loud Mouth! Is Mr Kamal Nath permitted to speak like this PM? Please reprimand him and ask him to keep his mouth shut. Wise people do not revell in pleasure when their own friends are in trouble.

Yes mate, that is true. I have been associated with banks and can vouch for that. Many loans in India are also similarly secured by vastly over valued real estate, just like in the US. I do not understand at all why this bravado on the part of the Indian commerce minister. The American system will correct itself and recover. The same cannot be said about India.
