BJP's Prime Ministerial (PM) nominee Narendra Modi today expressed his wish to built the world's tallest statue in Gujarat in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and thereby set the party up for 2014 elections.
Heating up the poll mood while addressing a rally at Rewari in Haryana, Narendra Modi appealed to the people of the country to help build the 'Statue of Unity', in memory of the 'Iron Man of India'.
"Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a farmer and he was born in Gujarat. He played a vital role in uniting the country. But in the last few years, Patel, known as the 'Iron Man of India', has been forgotten," Narendra Modi said after having been anointed BJP PM candidate on Friday.
The Gujarat Chief Minister said, "I wish the 'Statue of Unity' should be two-time taller than the Statue of Liberty in the US."
"I want cooperation from countrymen in its making. I do not want cannon or sword. I want pieces of iron used in the fields while farming," Narendra Modi said, adding "the project would take four to five years to complete".
