Bangalore, Aug 19: Infosys Technologies’ co-founder and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy will retire from his executive post as the company chairman, as he turns 60 on Sunday. Murthy’s last working day in his executive post passed off as another regular day at the company office on Friday, said Infosys executives.
Murthy will continue in a non-executive capacity as the board chairman and will remain Infosys’ chief mentor. The retirement is in accordance with an Infosys’ rule requiring board members to retire at 60. Infosys’ CEO, president and MD Nandan Nilekani (re-designated as CEO and MD with effect from Monday) will take over from Murthy as the seniormost co-founder board member.
Murthy, along with six other engineers, had founded Infosys 25 years ago and led it to become the second-largest software vendor in India, with revenues of $2.15 billion and an employee base of 58,000. The pull-out from an operative role is to give Murthy time for other interests.
