Municipal students yet to get money to buy winterwear
North municipal school students, already denied notebooks this academic session, are also without jerseys and winter uniforms as the money has not been handed to them yet.
Councillors of both the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress raised the issue on Monday, complaining that the Education department has not disbursed the cheques for students to buy their uniforms and winterwear.
Each student is supposed to get a cheque of Rs 500 to buy new clothes for winter.
As the Opposition raised allegations of delay in handing out the cheques, the chairperson of Education Committee (North), Rekha Gupta, voiced her support.
“The students have not got cheques of Rs 500, the cash subsidy corporations give to every student. It is mid-winter and students are yet to get their cash subsidy. The officials might be waiting for students to buy their own jerseys, shoes and uniforms as there is no way they will come to school without jerseys in winters,” Gupta said.
Leader of Opposition in the House Mukesh Goel demanded that the cheques be handed to students at the earliest. “To my knowledge, not a single school has received the cheques. Our students were without notebooks and desks, now they do not have uniforms and shoes. We should contemplate what we are giving the students studying in our schools, even if they are tagged as model schools, “ Goel said.
