Fake cops seem to be Mumbai’s latest concern. Hoardings across the city put up by the Mumbai Police have been screaming ‘Beware of Fake Cops. Verify Identity’. Meanwhile, the CBI has capitalised on the theme of the movie ‘Special 26’, which focuses on fake CBI officers. At the bottom of the movie poster runs the fine print — ‘Beware of fake CBI cops. Verify from CBI’.

DROUGHT YATRA

Maharashtra Youth Congress president Dr Vishwajeet Kadam has launched the 25-day Samvad Padyatra — covering 500 km and walking nearly 25 km a day — to “understand the problems of people in drought-stricken areas in the state, to “console and comfort them and spread the importance and utility of water conservation.” Ironically, his father Patangrao Kadam is the minister for Relief and Rehabilitation department, which is entrusted with providing relief to citizens reeling under severe drought.

FRIEND BASHING

Since the beginning of his state-wide tour, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has targeted Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Industries Minister Narayan Rane, both known to be in close touch with him, but has not uttered a word against usual opponents Shiv Sena and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. After clarifying that he would not take up cousin and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s offer for a tie up, Raj has been mimicking Pawar at every public rally, leaving his party workers wondering at the sudden shift in strategy.

MIGHTY FIGHT

It is known that differences of opinion regarding textile and industrial policy matters led to a year-long delay in approval of these important decisions in the state. Last week, differences between ministers over whose region best deserved to have the National Law University meant the decision was not taken in the previous Cabinet meeting. The proposal was to establish it at Aurangabad but ministers from Mumbai and Nagpur demanded that the university be set up in their regions. Within three hours of issuing the first press release, the CMO had to withdraw it, saying “only discussion took place”.
