The Lokayukta police Tuesday raided the premises of yet another clerk, Arjundas Lalwani, in Madhya Pradesh and unearthed details of property and valuables worth crores.

A grade II clerk, Lalwani began with a salary of Rs 100 three decades ago with the state electricity board. But today he owns a dozen shops in commercial areas of MP Nagar, TT Nagar and Bairagadh besides five houses and flats.

The police said Lalwani, a resident of Bairagadh, owns 22 properties apart from owning agricultural land and residential plots. An official of the raiding party said Lalwani’s assets were worth around Rs 40 crore but senior officials said the valuation is yet to be completed.

Though his current salary is under Rs 40,000, he has 24 bank accounts, said SP Siddharth Chaudhary. He has Rs 53 lakh in fixed deposits.

Good. Abou time the long arm of law catches up with these corrupt babus. If a clerk can earn this much imagine what his officers would have earned. But it is all too late. Many have dispersed the ill gotten wealth in benamis name and have settled now. It is only the tax paying citizen who is frustrated.

If the East India Company was earlier looting India on behalf of the British, we are running our own Eat India Company now!
