Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia will be the chief guest at the Lucknow University convocation for the session 2011-12, to be held on February 20.

MSc (Mathematics) student Mohammad Sarik Idrisi will bag the highest number of gold medals at ten, followed by MA ancient Indian History student Shyam Prakash, who will be awarded nine medals.

Apart from Ahluwalia, who will deliver the convocation address, Governor and LU Chancellor B L Joshi will deliver the Chancellor’s address.

Controller of Examinations Prof Aqil Ahmad said nearly 180 medals are to be given under various categories, including the prestigious Chancellor’s medals and Dr Chakravarty medal. Chancellor’s medal includes one gold, two silver and ten bronze medals. “We have interviewed the candidates and will finalise the names in the next 2-3 days,” Ahmad said. A provisional list of 160 medals on the basis of merit has also been put up on the university’s website.

Last year, the Governor’s office had given February 25 as the date for the convocation, but, owing to various reasons, including employees and teachers’ strike, it could not be organised. For 2010-11 session, the convocation could not be organised as Governor’ office had given November 2, 2011 as the date for the convocation but the university could not fix a date with the then President Pratibha Patil as the chief guest as she had other engagements for the day.
