BJP cadre on Friday evening came in for defending the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while addressing a press conference said that ''Modi will be disastrous for the country to have him as prime minister."

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said that the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate was dangerous for Congress, not for the country.

"He (Modi) is dangerous for Congress, not for the country," Raman Singh said.

On the Prime Minister's statement on corruption, he said, "People are fed up with ten years of UPA rule. Now there is no need to express regret (on corruption issues)," he said, talking to reporters.

"People will teach them (Congress) a lesson in this general election, then they will regret."

In south, Former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who announced his party KJP's decision to merge with BJP, on Friday flayed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's comment and said the Gujarat Chief Minister was the "only hope".

"The only hope in the country is Narendra Modi because people are disappointed with the Congress' rule in the country. That is why they are expecting good governance from him. There is no alternative to him," he told reporters.

Singh, in a rare press conference in New Delhi on Friday, had said that "without discussing the merits of Modi, I sincerely believe that it will be disastrous for the country to have him as prime minister."

Announcing the merger, Yeddyurappa had said on Thursday that he was back to BJP to support Modi for prime ministership.
