New Delhi: State-run MMTC on Friday invited bids for sale of 27,000 tonnes of Canadian yellow peas in the domestic market.
Bids will close on June 10 and the decision on the tender will be taken on the same day, the company said on its website.
Of 27,000, about 2,000 tonnes of yellow peas are lying at warehouses in Kolkata and the rest at Vizag, it said, adding that yellow peas grown in 2008 crop year in Canada are offered for sale.
Bidders interested to buy pulses, lying at Kolkata, should quote for the entire quantity, while for Vizag, the minimum bid quantity will be 2,500 tonnes, it said.
India imports pulses as production is lower than the demand. According to the government's third advance estimate, pulses production has been revised downward to 14.18 million tonnes from 14.25 million tonnes in the second advance estimates. Pulses output stood at 14.76 million tonnes in 2007-08 season.
