True to their word, Shrikant Mohta, Nishpal Singh and Moni Srikant of Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films have cast Mahakshay aka Mimoh Chakraborty in the action film, Rocky.

Marking his debut in Bengali cinema with the film, Mahakshay endeavours to live up to the image of an expert dancer and action hero much like his father Mithun Chakraborty.

Mahakshay made his debut in Bollywood with Jimmy, directed by Raj N. Sippy way back in 2008. Haunted in 3D, directed by Vikram Bhatt, was a reasonable hit and this established Mahakshay as an action hero within the thriller genre because Jimmy was also a murder mystery while Haunted was a horror flick. Rajnish Thakur’s Loot was released the same year.

“They have lived up to their promise and Rocky is ready for release in the theatres,” said Mahakshay at a prelaunch meet in Kolkata recently. Mithun Chakraborty was present at the event to support the banner and the team that has provided a platform to his son.

“I have trekked a rough and long journey in the world of films to establish myself. Today, I am happy that Moni, Nishpal and Shrikant have lived up to their promise and Mahakshay’s screen presence will be put to the test before the Bengali audience,” said Mithun. “Srikant and Nishpal had wanted to utilise Mimoh’s talents in action and dance, which he has done in and as Rocky,” added the happy father.

“I can understand Bengali but cannot speak it. I am still learning it to be able to fit into Bengali cinema. I did not have to worry much because with Sujitda (Sujit Mandal) as the director and N.K. Salil who wrote my lines and the script as well, I hope I have been able to deliver what was expected of me,” said Mahakshay, who looked a bit nervous as he stood beside his father and seemed a bit overawed by the press.

Pooja, who plays his love interest in the film, was all praise for the unit. “I feel truly fortunate to be a part of the team that is launching Mahakshay as hero in a Bengali film. He has done a stupendous job.” While, everyone praised each other, no one was willing to divulge any details about the story. “Salilda has created tag-lines exclusively for my character in the same way he created taglines for my father that are still popular in West Bengal.
