Mumbai, Oct 4: Mirc Electronics Ltd is foraying into the premium category of liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs by launching a new sub-brand Xaria, under the umbrella brand Onida this month. The company will source LCD panels from Japan's Sharp Worldwide and Korea's Samsung Electronics.
Mirc Electronics will assemble and produce 50,000 units of high-end Xaria LCD TVs at its Wada factory in Maharashtra, Gulu Mirchandani, its CMD, told FE.
Says Mirchandani, “We are starting to produce 50,000 units of high-end Xaria LCD TVs at the Wada factory in Maharashtra. We would be sourcing LCD panels from Samsung and Sharp.” Samsung India recently launched the largest commercially available full high-definition LCD TV in 70-inch screen size with LED Smart Lighting technology in India. Thus, a price war is hotting up in the Indian LCD TV market, which is growing at the rate of 100% albeit on a small base.
For, even as Onida’s Xaria 32-inch LCD TV will be available at Rs 55,000, Samsung’s Sonoma Trenz 32-inch LCD TV is currently priced at Rs 52,000, its designer Bordeaux range at Rs 57,000, Sansui 32-inch at Rs 44,990, LG's 32-inch LCD TV at Rs 44,990 and Sharp 32-inch LCD TV at Rs 70,000.
