New Delhi: Raju Narisetti, founding editor of Mint, a business newspaper launched in February 2007 by HT Media Ltd, is set to step down from his post.

An internal communiqué circulated at Mint on thursday says that R Sukumar, who took over as managing editor in April this year, will step into Narisetti’s shoes. Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, the editorial pages editor of Mint, who writes the column Café Economics every Wednesday, will be managing editor.

While the reason for his departure is not known, an executive at HT Media indicated that Narisetti may continue in an advisory role till June/July next year when his contract runs out. It may be racalled that Narisetti’s appointment as Mint editor earlier this year had raised many eyebrows because he is an Overseas Citizen of India.

To give a background, Narisetti had worked with The Wall Street Journal for 13 years in the US and in Europe. Until June 2006, he was editor, Wall Street Journal Europe, and a deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal with overall responsibility of Europe, Middle East and Africa. The Wall Street Journal is an exclusive content and business partner for Mint in India.

For his part, Suku, as Sukumar is known among his journalist friends, joined Mint in 2006 as deputy managing editor. He was earlier managing editor of Business Today magazine, where he spent nine years. An engineer by training from BITS, Pilani, Suku was with business daily, The Hindu Business Line, heading its marketing/advertising supplement, Catalyst, before joining Business Today.

Niranjan Rajadhyaksha was with Businessworld, a business daily from the Kolkata-based ABP Group, before moving to Mint.
