Mercedes-Benz to train young talent for Formula One
The process will begin with 50 shortlisted drivers being tested at the Budh International Circuit. Mercedes will begin registrations online and through their dealerships, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CO Eberhard Kern said. “We are trying to develop talent and a future generation of Formula One drivers, which Mercedes will pay for. We are keen to attract young talent in India,” he said. The three best drivers will be sent to Germany for a three-level programme.
FMSCI president Vicky Chandok said at the launch of the programme that resources and money were not available to aspiring motor sports enthusiasts due to scarcity of funds.
However, this programme will make resources available, offering a valuable opportunity to those with talent. “Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandok have been carrying the Indian flag in motor sports. It gives others hope to get somewhere,” Chandok said.
