MediaTek has launched another R&D facility at Bengaluru and is looking forward to invest USD 200 million in the course of the next few years. the chip maker already has a R&D facility situated in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The new R&D centre will focus on developing solutions for wireless communications to strengthen its foothold in connectivity and home entertainment devices. MediaTek aims to develop affordable solutions to meet the needs of the super-mid market.

“By year-end, we plan to build a workforce of over 100 professionals with strong expertise in the IC design industry, and over the next few years, we look to grow to over 500 in number. The Bengaluru centre for excellence will develop new products and applications, enabling India to harness growth opportunities in emerging technologies like LTE and IoT,” said Akshay Aggarwal, General Manager, MediaTek Bangalore.

The already operational facility is spread across approximately 70000 sq ft and has been established in the bustling Tech Park, along the outer ring road in Bengaluru.

Primary focus for MediaTek in Indian market has been the mobile communications segment so far, and the chip provider caters to almost all leading Indian handset manufacturers. With an objective of enhancing global customer profile, including India, MediaTek is actively looking at diversifying its operations in the country by enhancing connectivity and home entertainment segments.

The new centre will work in collaboration with other globally located R&D facilities of MediaTek to design solutions that combine hardware, software and services to deliver a seamless cross-platform experience to consumers.
