The managing director of an MNC based in Noida and his driver were reportedly abducted at gunpoint on Friday evening. Noida police rescued Rathin Basu, country president and MD of Alstom T&D India Limited, and driver Rambabu, from Meerut around 3.30 am on Saturday.

Three persons were arrested after the two were rescued from Pandav Nagar, an upscale locality in Meerut. Three others managed to escape.

Senior Superintendent of Police Preetinder Singh said, “Basu and his driver left their office in Sector 65 around 7.30 pm. A Maruti Wagon R crashed into Basu’s car. When Basu and the driver stepped out to check the damage, they were assaulted. Three men kidnapped them at gunpoint.”

Basu’s family received a call from him around 10 pm. “The kidnappers allowed Basu to call his family, to ensure that family members didn’t suspect anything. Family members told police that Basu, who normally speaks English, spoke in Hindi and sounded worried,” a senior police officer said.

The family informed Noida police about their suspicions around 10.30 pm. “We traced the call to Pandav Nagar in Meerut. A team was sent to Meerut immediately,” the officer said.
