The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has written a letter to the BCCI president N Srinivasan asking to have the Ranji Trophy final at Wankhede Stadium, should the team qualify. MCA president Ravi Savant, who attended the Indian board working committee meeting, submitted his request on Tuesday.

“If Saurashtra wins and Mumbai beat Services then we want the Ranji final to be held in Mumbai since it's our turn. I have written a letter to the BCCI asking them to consider my proposal,” Savant told The Indian Express. However in case Punjab and Mumbai go through, then Mumbai will be expected to travel to Mohali.

However, the request is surprising after the ICC-Womens World Cup schedule has the opening game in Wankhede Stadium. The Indian board has fixed January 26 to 30 for the Ranji Trophy final.

Saurashtra are playing Punjab in Rajkot while Mumbai is playing in Palaam in New Delhi. Depending upon the two teams winning their semi-final games, the venue for final will be decided. “We want to inform BCCI in advance so that at the last moment, there's no trouble. We are yet to get their response on this,” Savant added. However, there's been little interaction between MCA and BCCI for a while now. MCA has been simply allotted the venue by BCCI for the women's world cup, but hasn't playing any active role.
