Three weeks ago I was driving the new Tata Vista D90—a car that comes equipped with GPS navigation, among other features—from Delhi to Dehradun and I thought why not compare an in-built GPS device with an after-market fitment. To my good luck, around the same time, I got a call from Mapmyindia folks who offered me their new Lx340 navigator. But, unfortunately, the comparison was not to be, because somehow the test car’s in-built device developed some problem and stopped functioning. So, let me only present you how the new navigator from Mapmyindia works.

First, the Lx340 isn’t just a navigator. It is a car GPS navi-tainment device that comes equipped with what are, unarguably, among India’s finest maps. In fact, the Lx340 adds new capabilities to your existing car audio system. You can load videos and music on an SD card (up to 8 GB supported) and view videos on the Lx340’s decent size 10.9 cm TFT touchscreen.

The device works well as a navigator. The in-built 3D maps offer street-level turn-by-turn directions in as many as 4,751 cities across India. In fact, I drove down in western Uttar Pradesh and the device even showed me the small walkways that normally divide two agricultural pieces of land! Then you have various categories of points of interest and there are over 7.08 million unique destinations that come loaded in the Lx340. So, wherever you want to go, chances are that you will find a way. You also now get enhanced lane guidance

... contd.
