Manchester United do not have enough world-class players to win the Champions League, manager David Moyes said as he effectively wrote off his own team's chances in Europe's elite club competition. "To win the Champions League, you need five or six world-class players," Moyes told British newspapers in comments published on Sunday. "Look at Bayern Munich, they have it. Look at Barcelona, who had it in the past and Real Madrid, who have maybe got it now. That's the level you have to be at to win it. We've not got that yet but what we have got is experience."
Alkmaar fire coach
AZ Alkmaar fired coach Gertjan Verbeek on Sunday in a surprise move that came a day after they beat Dutch league leaders PSV Eindhoven to move to within two points of the top of the standings. "On the basis of a lack of chemistry between the squad and the coach and a lack of confidence, the club's directors do not see any possibility for further co-operation," the club said in a statement.
Pogba earns winner for Juventus
Juventus earned a narrow 1-0 win in a heated derby match at city rival Torino on Sunday, to move provisionally joint top of the table with Napoli. Paul Pogba scored a contentious 54th-minute winner, heading in the rebound after Carlos Tevez's header came off the crossbar. There were fierce protests from Torino, however, as Tevez appeared to be offside.
Mumbai FC draw again
Mumbai FC held Dempo SC 1-1 in a Round-2 encounter of I-League on Sunday. Trailing by a first-half goal scored by Jeje Lalpekhlua (45' + 3'), Mumbai FC found their savior in defender Anwar Ali (86thminute) to snare a point. Mumbai FC went into the game making one change opting for defender Valeriano Rebello in place of striker Jayesh Rane.
Taheer scores seven for Goa
Abu Taheer scored seven goals in a span of just under 20 minutes to help Infant Jesus Academy, Goa hammer Govt Secondary School, Lakshwadeep 10-0 and enter the quarterfinals of boy's u-14 category of the 54th Subroto Cup football tournament. Goa had taken the lead in the very first minute through Abhijeet and Taheer killed the contest by the 20th minute, scoring seven more goals (4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 18).
