Man loses leg in road mishap, gets Rs 10.35 lakh compensation
The Tribunal ordered Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and the driver of the offending bus, to pay Rs 10.35 to victim Bhupender Singh.
"Respondent No1 being driver, respondent No 2 and 3 being owners of the offending vehicle are jointly and severally liable to make the payment of Rs 10,35,945 as a compensation to the injured," MACT Presiding Officer S C Malik said.
The tribunal's order came on 29-year-old Singh's plea for compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the owner of the vehicle.
Singh, employed with a private company here, had moved the tribunal saying he was knocked down by rashly-driven a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus in July 2008 while on his way to his office on his motorcycle.
He said he suffered multiple grievous injuries which also resulted in amputation of his right leg from knee downward, making him bed-ridden for the whole life.
Singh, who was earning Rs 10,000 per month, had to leave his job due to the 70 per cent permanent disability.
The respondents, however, had opposed Singh's submissions saying he himself was negligent, but the Tribunal rejected their contentions.
