According to police, the victim, Kapil, has several cases registered against him and had come to the court in connection with these.

From there, he went to Push Vihar, Sector 1, Block 5 and was sitting inside a Scorpio with a friend when the assailants gunned him down.

“The assailants shot Kapil at point-blank range. They fired around 10 rounds, of which six bullets hit Kapil. The two quickly fled on their bike before people nearby realised what had happened,” a police officer said.

Police suspect that a man named Kamal might be behind the murder. Police said Kamal’s brother Monty was murdered last year and Kapil was alleged to behind the murder.

Police said Kapil’s friend, who was with him in the car, did not sustain any injuries. Passersby gathered to help the two and also informed police.

“Kapil was rushed to Batra hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” the officer said.

According to police, Kapil, a resident of Sangam Vihar, Southeast Delhi, was a member of a criminal gang and was reportedly getting threats from a rival gang in Pul Prahladpur. Police said he had been involved in shoot-outs twice before.
