After remaining silent for months on the proposed Indo-Bangladesh land border agreement, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Saturday said her party was opposed to the present form of the Constitutional amendment Bill related to the agreement.
On her Facebook account, she accused the Centre of doublespeak and showing undue haste in giving away West Bengalís land to Bangladesh. ďBengal will get only about 7,000 acres of land, but will have to recede nearly 17,000 acres of land to Bangladesh,Ē she wrote on the social networking website. ďWhat is the hurry of the Central Government to give away our land and our water without the consent of the state government?Ē she added.
West Bengal Chief Minister also drew a parallel to the Teesta water-sharing accord wherein, she claimed, that the proposed accord was different from what her state government had been made to understand.
