Maken writes to Delhi govt about slum rehabilitation
Citing specific provisions of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws Act, 2011, Maken stated that no any arbitrary action could be taken against slum dwellers and street vendors without the prior approval of the L-G.
“I have received complaints from jhuggi dwellers regarding harassment by local and municipal authorities. The BJP-controlled municipal corporations are blatantly violating Central laws, which provide protection from ad-hoc and unplanned removal,” Maken said.
His letter read, “I may inform that the Government of India has formulated the national policy on Urban Street Vendors, 2009, aimed at ensuring that urban street vendors are enabled to pursue their economic activities without harassment from any authority.”
Maken also said concerned local bodies should not take any action without the approval of the L-G.
