Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has formed a new alliance called the Diamond Alliance. This unique coalition is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) where hoteliers, resort owners, tour operators, transport operators and airlines have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MTDC, together to promote tourism of Maharashtra.

Speaking exclusively to Financial Express Online, Sumit Mullick, additional chief secretary and chief protocol officer, government of Maharashtra, said, “Diamond Alliance is a one of a kind alliance and also the first in the country. MTDC can be termed as the facilitator and catalyst to promote tourism in the state. Now with this new alliance the government and the private players are coming together to promote tourism, which would play a very key role in the long run to increase the tourism footfall in the state.”

The hoteliers who has signed the MoU with MTDC are JW Marriott, The Oberoi Group, Kamat Hotels, Absolute Hotel Services, Tiger Trails. Cox & Kings, Kuoni, Mercury Travels from the tour operators' segment. Treasure Tourism, Auto Infrastructure, Sudarshan Car Rentals from the car rental operators.

From the airlines sector Jet Airways are very keen on signing the MoU.

Dr Jagdish Patil, director, MTDC, said, “The Diamond Alliance is a very precious alliance for us, all the private players along with MTDC will grow together and also promote our state together. We will promote all the new products, new circuits and packages through this alliance.”

“We will also look into the policies for the growth of tourism in Maharashtra. Probably the rationalisation of luxury tax will also be passed very soon which would help to increase tourism,” Patil added.

Iqbal Mulla, president, Travel Agents Association of India, said, “Maharashtra has a very huge potential for tourism. A lot of destination is still to be explored. MTDC is acting as a medium to bring all the different segments together and promote Maharashtra together. We are very happy that the government has taken such and initiative and, finally private players and the government are coming together.”
