M Y Khan named Chairman for Pakal Dul, Chenab basin projects

The state has appointed former Jammu and Kashmir Bank Chairman M Y Khan as chairman of the Board of Directors for the joint venture company (JVC) formed for completing Pakal Dul and two other projects in the Chenab basin.

Khan was appointed in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here on Wednesday evening, an official spokesperson said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had signed a memorandum of understanding with NHPC in 2008 for setting up a JVC for completing three power projects on Chenab Basin with a combined power generation capacity of 2,120 megawatts (MW) through the State Power Development Corporation.

These include 1000-MW project at Pakal Dul, 600-MW project at Kiru and 520-MW project at Kawar, which are expected to come up at a cumulative cost of Rs 15,000 crore.
