LS polls: Azamgarh villagers want Mulayam son Prateek
Several village pradhans from Azamgarh district staged protest outside the Samajwadi Party office demanding to field Prateek Yadav, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. SP has already declared cabinet minister for Panchayti Raj Balram Yadav as its candidate from Azamgarh.
“Our district Azamgarh is still backward and the old leaders have failed to ensure development. Though we have not seen Prateek’s face, still we are sure that it will result in development of our district as he is son of Mulayam,” Ram Shringar Yadav, a village pradhan said.
Interestingly, Sangram Yadav, who is MLA from Atraulia in Azamgarh and son of cabinet minister Balram Yadav when contacted also agreed with the demand. “Prateekji is a very big name for us. Even if Netaji (Mulayam) sends any ordinary person for contesting from Azamgarh, it will not take a second for us to withdraw,” Sangram Yadav said. Cabinet minister for stamps and registration Durga Prasad Yadav and minister of state for basic education, Waseem Ahmed, who also hail from Azamgarh, stated that they will abide by any instruction from Mulayam.
SP’s national general secretary, Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, however, turned down the demand. “Prateek will not be fielded from Azamgarh. Balram Yadav will contest from Azamgarh and it is the final decision,” Ram Gopal told newsmen at Allahabad.
