New Delhi: With youth being the flavour of the season, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee introduced low-cost, air-conditioned 'Yuva Trains' dedicated to the generation next.

The trains, with only sitting accommodation, will also benefit low-income groups.

A weekly service will be introduced as a pilot project within three months in Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata sectors, Banerjee said presenting the Railway Budget 2009-10 in Parliament.

If successful, it will be extended to other areas, she said.

These trains will be introduced between major cities to ensure that the youth and low-income groups can travel at low fares. The idea is to connect the youth in rural hinterlands with major metro cities, she said.

The trains will run from point to point for the distance ranging from 1,000 km to 2,500 km. The fare will be Rs 229 for distances up to 1,500 km and Rs 399 for distances upto 2,500 km.

Appears something like wonderland budget. But in such dream-budgets dreams do not turn into reality. Some times these get transformed into night-mares.In Laloo's budgets every thing positive aspect promised boom ranged as negative. The accidents increased. Crime and acts of terrorism multiplied. RPF was involved in all sorts of crime and from protection force it turned into a fearful force. Passenger's safety was grossly and unforgivably compromised. Women were the major victims of crime, while Railway police looked other way.So what is to guarantee that this time around it will be what it promises to be? The major aspects like security, revamp of Railway Police, vigilance of railway tracks, checks on railway crossing and managing these efficiently are not high-lighted. However it sounds good..just like music and if it is really put in practice it will make people happy. Thankfully the Lady is a better at doing the things than the Gentleman who preceded her. Good luck to her.
