A businessman from Bangalore has offered to donate Rs 1,500 crore for the development of temple town Pandharpur. The amount is stated to be highest ever donation offered by any devotee in Maharashtra. The businessman has, however, set a condition that he would donate the amount only if he is convinced that a proper plan has been devised for the town’s development.

The businessman had met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in Pune last week. BJP leader Eknath Khadse, who was present at the meeting, confirmed the donation amount offered by the businessman “who is not a Maharashtrian but a devotee of Lord Vitthal”.

“The businessman, who is from South India, has requested that his name should not be disclosed,” he said. Chavan will hold another meeting with the businessman before taking a decision on accepting his donation, he said. “Another meeting is slated to take place in the next 10 days when I hope the CM will take the decision,” said Khadse.

1500 Crores Donation

Ram Patil | 09-Jan-2013Reply | Forward
The CM Prithwiraj Chavhan, Eknath Khadse and the press must not only reveal name of the donor but his antecedents and source of income also must be given. The donor must tell the nation how has he earned 1500 Crore Rupees and whether the amount is fully white and tax paid. If it happens to be a trick to evade tax more than the donations, he should be taken to task. We pay enough tax to the government who should develop Pandharpur. Recently there was a shockig news on TV about dry sanitation in Pandharpur and that the women safai carry night soil on their heads to dispose and some women narrated how the filth trickles down from head to the clothes while carrying. If this is the state of affairs in the progressive state of Maharashtra, I think we are as good as in the primitive era.
