Marking a clear shift from the stand of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit not to give the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) work outside the national capital, Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung on Saturday asked DMRC to “look beyond” and “conceptualise” itself as a global entity. Jung also promised “to partner DMRC overseas”.

“Even in the face of severe traffic and congestion problems as no other country faces, the DMRC has managed to showcase unique intellectual and financial integrity. Sky is the limit now. Conceptualise yourself as a global entity. Give consultation to other cities and countries, build their Metro rails for them,” Jung said at the 20th Foundation Day of DMRC being celebrated here.

But the L-G urged the corporation to look into the reasons for low female-male employee ratio. “Most of the DMRC employees awarded this evening were young people. But, I saw far fewer women on the stage as compared to men. The female-male ratio is not good and we must encourage more women to come up,” Jung said.

Listing out the achievements of the DMRC in the past year, DMRC MD Mangu Singh said 80 crore passengers travelled in the Metro in 2013, a 13.7 per cent increase over the previous year.
