Manish Tiwari has dubbed the Anna Hazare campaign as tyranny of the unelected. But what options do people have when leaders rob them blind and will not do anything to check rampant corruption. The Congress party takes action only when it is forced, either by the people or by the courts, and even then it takes little action. To give an example, while the CWG scam involves not just the Organising Committee but the Delhi government and the urban development ministry also, no concrete action has been taken against them. The Prime Minister is not taking any action. Incidentally most Congressmen are unelected. If Jayalalithaa is to be believed, so is the home minister. Digvijay Singh, who is the most common face of the party, lost several elections in Madhya Pradesh. Several of the DMK MPs, who form crucial part of the UPA-2 government, have won their seats using the ‘Thirumangalam formula’—rain money and goodies on people in return for a vote. You need crores and crores of rupees to win elections. The ruling alliance has the money. Are we stuck with this corrupt government?
