: Apropos of the report ‘Government calls meet of PSB chiefs to talk mergers’ (FE, Nov 13), it is definitely good to have eight to nine large-sized public sector banks that are equal to the size of what State Bank of India today is. Size does matter much in this globalised environment. After the successful experiment involving the merger of State Bank of Saurashtra with the SBI, the government should also expedite the merger of remaining six subsidiaries with the parent SBI. That would ensure continued stability of Indian financial system besides making them take on newer and greater challenges with relative ease.
