Sparing thoughts

Apropos of the news report “Snoopgate: Centre to set up inquiry commission” (FE, December 27), with the 2014 general elections just four months away, the Centre’s decision to set up a commission of inquiry into the Gujarat Police’s surveillance on a young woman in 2009 and fixing time-limit of three months to submit its report is justifiably seen as a conspiracy against Narendra Modi. The message going across is that unable to counter Modi politically and scared of his popularity, the Congress in power at the Centre seems to be misusing the executive authority to get the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Rahul Gandhi’s strong contender implicated in a case. Some thought must be spared for the same.
