That the new CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, is not an IITian is a point that should not be missed! Over time, the IITs have become strait-jacketed in mass-producing “excellence”. But this has not restricted other “lesser” institutions in contributing to brilliance. In the six-plus decades of IITs' existence,in an era of exploding scientific keen, its alumni has made negligible contributions to either cutting-edge technologies or great scientific research. What is remarkable, in this era of relentless pursuit of individual careers and hopping on to disparate jobs, Nadella stuck with one company, persevering for 22 long years, to rise and be its CEO. Apropos of your edit “Window in the cloud”
(FE, February 6), what Nadella can actually bring to Microsoft remains to be seen.
