: The fire in the oil depot in Jaipur, on Thursday, October 29, has once again underlined the importance of safety and loss prevention measures in all industries and particularly the petroleum industry. The nationalised general industry had once set up a safety and loss promotion organisation but unfortunately it was wound up a few years back. It is time we, as a developing country, gave due recognition to the important role played by safety promotion and loss prevention organisations, strengthen them and endeavour to minimise incidents of fires and explosions.
