: I agree with Sudhir K Bhave’s demand of a pay increase for public sector bank employees (‘Letter to the editor’). At the time of the last VRS, there was an exodus of qualified and experienced personnel from PSU banks. PSU bank employees are a stressed lot who work under the sword of ‘staff accountability’. Staff shortage is a perennial problem. If talent is to be retained, it is time that market-determined salaries are paid to them or at least a reasonable rise of 20% be considered to boost their morale. It’s also reasonable to reward them for their excellent record in lending.
