Grand Masti has done an astounding business of Rs.100 crore worldwide. Did the collections come as a surprise to you?
I was always sure that the film will cross the Rs.100 crore mark. That the film has done good business is an understatement considering that it is an adult film, which automatically keeps away a segment of the audience—the families. The collections have been phenomenal, (the budget was modest, around Rs.18-19 crore). Though I was not surprised at how it has fared at the box-office, I was taken aback when I learnt that ladies have liked the picture too
What have the reactions to the sex comedy been?
I would not like to call the film a sex comedy because we have not shown any sex in the film. Grand Masti is an adult comedy as it’s replete with adult jokes. Even a child has an Android phone in his hand and has access to everything. You have films showing a lot of violence, rapes, sex and other adult themes, so I don’t understand why we object to adult jokes. We have a BA Pass and a Hate Story with explicit sex, so why are people creating a ruckus over Grand Masti?
Was there any problem with the Censor Board?
I am thankful that the Censors understood the intention and passed this picture. The fact that it was an adult comedy was made very clear in the promos itself, so that people who are not comfortable with such content could stay away. We are only
