A labourer died after he fell off the 13th floor of an under-construction building in Charkop on Saturday morning.
Police, after registering a complaint against unknown persons for causing death by negligence are probing to pin those responsible. Charkop police said the worker fell off the building being constructed by Dharmesh Builders at Bhabrekar Nagar off the Link Road in Charkop.
Preliminary probe revealed that the worker, Raju Kaiser (26) was installing iron rods to strengthen beams at the edge of the building when he fell. He was still breathing and was rushed to a hospital in Charkop. The impact of his fall had fractured his bones and damaged vital organs, and he was referred to Bhagwati hospital as the local hospital was not equipped to handle the complications. Kaiser died on the way to Bhagwati Hospital.
“Inquiries revealed there were no safety measures such as harnesses used by labourers for working at great heights. We have registered a complaint of causing death by negligence against unknown persons and are questioning site supervisors and other employees of the company. No arrests have been made as yet,” said Vasant Devarkar, senior police inspector, Charkop police station.
Kaiser was a native of Uttar Pradesh. He his wife and two daughters are in UP. Kaiser worked on daily wages, police said.
