The recent reconstitution of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has triggered fresh dissent in the state unit of the Congress.

Dominant groups of KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy are unhappy over the decision to make O Abdurahiman Kutty, a nominee of Congress spokesperson and Thrissur MP P C Chacko, the DCC president of Thrissur.

In Kannur, K Sudhakaran, MP, has ensured that his nominee K Surendran was made the DCC chief. Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders have threatened to float a parallel outfit in Thrissur. On Wednesday night, Chacko’s office was stoned.

Loyalists of the former chief minister late K Karunakaran wanted A Balram to be the Thrissur DCC chief. In Kannur, ‘A’ group nominee Satheeshan Pacheni, a strong contender for the post of Kannur DCC chief, lost in the lobbying of K Sudhakaran. Party sources said there is a move to make Balram and Pacheni state general secretaries.
