The family of a 33-year-old man, who died in a road mishap has been awarded Rs 13.64 lakh as compensation by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).
MACT Presiding Officer Dinesh Bhatt ordered Reliance General Insurance Company Limited, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay the sum. “The insurance company shall pay the compensation of Rs 13,64,144 within one month to the family of Mohan Lal,” Bhatt said.
The tribunal awarded the compensation on a petition filed by relatives of Lal, who worked with a construction company. His wife told the tribunal that he died after a rashly-driven car hit his scooter on June 28, 2011, near Miranda House College in Delhi University.
Surender Singh, the owner of the offending car, said the accident was caused as Mohan was driving under the influence.
The tribunal, however, rejected his arguments.
